Crimes Nearby: Partiers Pepper Sprayed After Brawl Outside Bowling Alley

The following information was supplied by Suffolk County and East End police departments. A criminal charge is only an accusation and does not indicate guilt.

• After responding to a fight outside of at 3 a.m. on Dec. 31, village police used pepper spray and a stun gun part of a Taser to gain control of brawlers.

Chief Jerry Larsen said approximately 40 people were actively fighting in the parking lot and that it spilled out onto the street. He said officers estimated about 75 people were in the parking lot at the time.

The bowling alley's lounge had been rented for a for a local rapper on Dec. 30 from 10 p.m. to 4 a.m.

• Diego P. Ordonez-Contreras, 28, of East Hampton, was arrested in Springs on New Year's Day after they came across a 1998 Honda on the front lawn of a house on Springs Fireplace Road wedged between a tree and a split rail fence at about 4:30 a.m. The driver was attempting to maneuver the car from the position. Police said he appeared drunk and they saw an open container of Corona beer within reach of him. They also found a marijuana cigar and a prescription pill container containing what later tested positive for marijuana on the floor board near his feet. He was arrested on a misdemeanor DWI charge at 4:53 a.m. East Hampton Town Justice Lisa R. Rana released him on $500 bail.

• Cameron L. Greenbaum, 23, of East Hampton, was arrested and charged with possession of a hypodermic instrument, a misdemeanor, during a traffic stop on Tub Oarsman Road in East Hampton on Dec. 24. While the driver, James Rivera, 34, of Bridgehampton, attempted to retrieve his driver's license from a back pack, police saw a plastic bag with three pills inside. Greenbaum was asked to step out of the car and they patted him down for weapons, when they came across a hard metal object in his jacket pocket. It turned out to be a needle. Meanwhile, Rivera was charged with driving with a suspended license. Both men were released on appearance tickets. The drug found turned out to be Trazodone, a drug not subject to the controlled substance act.

RIVERHEAD

A Sag Harbor resident was arrested on charges of DWI on Flanders Road on New Year's Eve. According to Southampton Police, Judy Clempner, 57, was found unresponsive behind the wheel of a 2002 gray Honda in a no standing zone. Police said she had in the car an open bottle of white wine.

Ronnie Meyers, 42 of Riverhead, was arrested on Sunday at 2:38 a.m. on DWI charges on County Road 105. Meyers, police said, was stopped for failing to maintain his lane. He was charged with driving intoxicated with a BAC of .08, DWI and refusal to submit to an alert test. He was also charged with moving from a lane unsafely and having no plate lamp.

Melissa Romano, 18, of Lido Beach, was charged with DWI on New Year's Eve. According to police, she was stopped at the Peconic Avenue traffic circle for tailgating. She was charged with DWI and following too closely.

WESTHAMPTON BEACH-HAMPTON BAYS

Southampton police reported that they chased a 30-year-old East Quogue man through Hampton Bays on New Year's eve.
Police said when they attempted to stop Andrew McCavanagh for failing to signal a left turn at Squires Avenue in Hampton Bays, McCavanagh fled in his car, reaching 80 miles an hour.
Police said they apprehended McCavanagh at the intersection of Broad Hollow Road and Fairview Avenue. He was charged with DWI, aggravated DWI and unlawfully fleeing an officer.


A Farmingville man was arrested in Hampton Bays for DWI on Sunday at 1:51 a.m. Police say Charles Carter, 31, was driving on Springville Road when they stopped him for a traffic infraction. Upon investigation, they found that he smelled of alcohol. He was charged with first-degree aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, a felony; driving while intoxicated and driving with intoxicated by alcohol with blood alcohol content of .08, both misdemeanors, and no plate lamp, a violation.

SOUTHAMPTON


• A 15-year-old boy from Sagaponack and two 14-year-old boys from Sag Harbor were arrested Dec. 17 at 3:45 a.m. and charged with grand larceny in the fourth degree, a felony, as well as unauthorized use of a vehicle in the third degree, a misdemeanor. Southampton Village police said the teens were driving a 1998 Range Rover erratically eastbound on Hill Street, and, after investigation, discovered the vehicle was stolen earlier that night from the parking lot of Southampton Range Rover. All three juveniles were processed and released to their parents, police said. They all will have to appear in Family Court.


• Luis A. Mendizabal, 21, of Hampton Bays, was arrested Dec. 9 at 9:43 p.m. and charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance in the seventh degree and loitering in the first degree, both misdemeanors. While on routine patrol, officers noticed some suspicious activity involving Mendizabal in the area of McDonalds and upon further investigation found Mendizabal to have a quantity of crack/cocaine, Southampton Village police said. He also was wanted on a warrant from the Prince County Police Department in Manassas, Va. for failure to appear on a burglary charge, police said. He was processed and remanded to the Suffolk County Jail in lieu of $300 bail.


• Victoria Nava-Ochoa, 26, of Hampton Bays, was arrested Dec. 19 at 2:19 p.m. and charged with endangering the welfare of a child, a misdemeanor. Southampton Village police said they received a call that there was an unattended child in an unlocked vehicle in the CVS parking lot. Upon arrival, they found a 4-year-old child asleep in the back seat of a 2006 Honda, police said. Nava-Ochoa was processed and released on an appearance ticket.  A referral to Child Protective Services was made.

Sag Harbor:
• Jon P. Trabona, 42, of Southampton, was arrested Dec. 31 at 8 p.m. on Oakland Avenue and charged with endangering the welfare of a child, a misdemeanor, and unlawful possession of marijuana, a violation. According to the Sag Harbor Village police arrest report, Trabona was arrested after admitting in the police station lobby that he was aware his 16-year-old, who had been charged with unlawful possession of marijuana, was buying drugs.

MILLER PLACE-ROCKY POINT

Michael Dirago, 21, of Rocky Point, was arrested Dec. 22 at about 4:53 p.m. and charged with fourth degree criminal possession of stolen property: value greater than $1,000 and unlawful possession of marijuana. He was found on Lavender Road reportedly in possession of two stolen iPads and the drug.

Jonathan Kelly, 22, of Rocky Point, was arrested Dec. 22 at about 4:53 p.m. and charged with disorderly conduct: obstructing traffic. He allegedly stood in the middle of Lavender Road obstructing traffic, and refused police requests to move.
