Crimes Nearby in Riverhead, Miller Place and the Hamptons

The following information was supplied by various town police departments. A criminal charge is only an accusation and does not indicate guilt.

Miller Place-Rocky Point:
Two arrests were made on Echo Avenue from Miller Place to Sound Beach over the weekend.

On Oct. 14, Brian Poirier, 24, of Sound Beach was arrested on Echo Avenue at around 8:30 p.m. for second degree criminal contempt. No other information was available as of Monday.

At the corner of Echo and New York avenues 3:08 p.m. on Oct. 16, Lawrence Stanton, 44, of Miller Place was arrested for aggravated DWI. Stanton was driving a 2000 Jeep.

Matthew Riggio, 24, of Selden was arrested Oct. 9 in Holbrook and charged with DWAI. Reports indicate Riggio was arrested on Nicolls Road in Holbrook for the alleged impairment by drugs and alcohol in a 1998 Jeep. The incident occurred at approximately 2:10 a.m.

Louis Volpe, 21, of Miller Place was arrested Oct. 3 in Shirley and charged with third degree grand larceny. Reports indicate Volpe was arrested for the alleged theft of jewelry. Reports state he was arrested on County Rd. 46.

East Hampton:

Sara Palma-Ricardo, 31, of Kent, Wash. was arrested on Oct. 12 on charges of unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle in the second degree. According to police reports, Palma-Ricardo was driving south on Route 114 near Montauk Boulevard when she reported seeing a white pickup truck cross over the double yellow line. She reported swerving to avoid hitting the car and subsequently turned onto its driver's side and hit a tree. Palma-Ricardo, whose two children were also in the car, was arrested after police said they found that her license had been suspended six times on four separate occasions. She was processed, given an appearance ticket and released on $100 bail.

Nil Erbil, 36, of Montauk was arrested on DWI charges on Oct. 16. According to police reports, Erbil was observed rolling through a stop sign and was pulled over in the parking lot of the Montauk 7-Eleven soon after. Police reported that she had a smell of alcohol on her breath upon approaching her, and proceeded to fail a field sobriety test. She was arrested and transported to headquarters, where she reportedly blew a 0.12% blood alcohol level. She was held for morning arraignment.

Cesar Criollo, 39, of East Hampton was arrested on Oct. 16 on charges of driving without an interlock device and aggravated unlicensed operation in the second degree. Police said Criollo was pulled over near the intersection of Cedar Street and Hands Creek Road for failing to maintain his lane of travel. Police reported that upon investigation it was found that Criollo's license was revoked for a DWI conviction with a blood alcohol content of 0.18% or higher. He was released on $250 bail and given an appearance ticket.

Westhampton-Hampton Bays:

Criminal Mischief
Two Westhampton residents told Southampton Town Police that a young teenager damaged their personal property with a baseball bat Saturday evening before 6 p.m.

A 37-year-old woman who lives on Hamilton Avenue in Westhampton told Town Police that on Saturday at around 5:52 p.m., a male teenager hit the back of her car with a baseball bat and damaged a tail lamp. The woman told police the boy ran away toward McCord Street, but he was gone before police arrived.
On the same day and time, a 50-year-old Hamilton Avenue man told police that a young male teenager also hit his mailbox and driveway lamp with a baseball bat.
Police interviewed a woman at a home on McCord Street towards which the boy was seen running. The woman told police a boy fitting the description had visited her home. Police are continuing to investigate.

Stolen Property

Richard Galli, 45, of Brooklyn was arrested Saturday at 8:28 a.m. at the corner of Montauk Highway West and Ponquogue Avenue in Hampton Bays and charged with fifth-degree criminal possession of stolen property, a misdemeanor. Galli was stopped for a traffic violation when police discovered he had stolen Florida license plates on his car, police said.

Aggravated Unlicensed Operation
Selvin Domingo-Paz, 26, of Hampton Bays was stopped Sunday at 2 p.m. at the corner of Springville Road and King Street in Hampton Bays and cited with second-degree aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, a misdemeanor, and driving without using an ignition interlock device, a violation. Domingo-Paz was in a minor car accident when police discovered he 

his license had been suspended and was driving without the device following a car accident, police said.


False Personation
Elder Guerra, 33, of Hempstead was arrested Saturday at 12:52 a.m. on the corner of County Road 31 and Stewart Avenue in Westhampton and charged with first-degree aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, a felony, and false personation and second-degree aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, both misdemeanors. Guerra was stopped for a traffic violation when police discovered he provided a false name to officers. Police said that Guerra, whose license was suspended following a 2010 DWI, appeared intoxicated, but his blood alcohol content did not meet requirements for a DWI charge.

Harassment
Jennifer Nappi, 42, of Hampton Bays was arrested Saturday at 8:50 p.m. at St. Rosalie’s Roman Catholic Church and charged with disorderly conduct, a misdemeanor, and second-degree harassment, a violation. Police responded to the church to check on Nappi’s well-being at the request of a friend, but she appeared intoxicated, according to police. Nappi yelled and pushed officers, and threatened to injure them, police said.

Grand Larceny
A 64-year-old man from Westhampton told Town Police that sometime between Sept. 25 and Friday at 11 p.m. someone stole a $2,000 black steel urn from outside the service gate at his home on Apaucuck Cove Lane in Westhampton. Police are investigating, but the homeowner declined to give officers a list of contractors who maintain the property, stating that they are trustworthy and not involved.

Petit Larceny
A 45-year-old man from Hampton Bays told Town Police that between 6 p.m. Friday and 6 a.m. Saturday, someone slashed the convertible top of his 2012 Ford Cobra Mustang, parked on Daniel Road, with a sharp tool. An Apple laptop and man’s leather jacket were also taken from the car. Police officers took pictures of the scene, searched for evidence and sent samples to a Suffolk County Police department lab for further investigation leads.

A 55-year-old woman from Hampton Bays told Town Police that sometime between 3 p.m. Friday and 9:30 a.m. Saturday someone lifted up the hood of her Honda Civic, parked at her home on Wakeman Road, and stole the passenger-side directional lens. Both headlight screws were missing, but the headlights were not stolen. Police are investigating.

A 22-year-old Hampton Bays woman told police that sometime between 10 p.m. Friday and 8 a.m. Saturday, someone broke the side windows of her Honda Accord and stole her iPad and charger. The car was parked in the driveway of her home on Old Riverhead Road in Hampton Bays, according to police documentation. The woman is contacting Best Buy to get the serial number of her iPad to help police in their investigation. Officers are also looking into a fingerprint found on the car window.

Southampton:  

Robert E. Gill, 43, of Southampton was arrested Friday at 12:45 a.m. and charged with driving while intoxicated after he was involved in a motor vehicle crash on Osborne Avenue in which he struck a tree and a parked vehicle, according to Southampton Village police.  Gill was held pending a morning arraignment and then released.

Southampton Town police arrested a 28-year-old Southampton man after he bit and punched his ex-girlfriend, according to reports. Willie Jenkins got into an argument with his ex-girlfriend, and then punched her in the face twice and bit her on the wrist, according to police. While she was trying to call 911, Jenkins grabbed the phone from her and broke it, police said. He was charged with fourth-degree criminal mischief, a misdemeanor, and second-degree harassment, a violation.

Riverhead:

Petit Larceny
The former manager of a Northampton group home for developmentally disabled people was charged with petit larceny for allegedly stealing money from her wards, Southampton Town Police said.

Police said Nicole Leggon, 28, of Riverhead pocketed about $400 in cash from the residents of the Aid to the Developmentally Disabled home in Northampton between June 1 and Sept. 1. She was the house manager at the time, but is now unemployed, according to her arrest report.

Leggon was arrested and charged with petit larceny, a misdemeanor, on Friday at 4:44 p.m. at police headquarters in Hampton Bays. The residents of the home were reimbursed for the losses, police said.

Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance

A Flanders man was arrested by Southampton Town Police and charged with numerous drug-related violations after police allegedly found he was carrying a quantity of drugs including PCP, heroin, marijuana and both crack and powered cocaine, on Saturday morning.

Natia Yisrael, 36, was a passenger in a vehicle that was stopped for a traffic violation on Flanders Road in Riverside at 12:46 a.m, according to a police report. Police found he was carrying various illegal drugs and arrested him, police said.

Yisrael was charged with third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, three counts of seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, unlawful possession of marijuana and resisting arrest.

DWI

A Riverhead man was charged with drunk driving on Sunday after police said he crashed head-on into another car on Montauk Highway, sending both drivers to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Jose Carabantes, 25, was arrested by on Sunday at about 10:35 p.m. in Water Mill and charged with driving while intoxicated, a misdemeanor, and driving without a license and failure to maintain lane, both infractions.

Police said Carabantes was driving a 2001 Mitsubishi eastbound on Montauk Highway when he crossed into the westbound lane and collided head-on with a 1989 Chevrolet pickup. and the Ambulance Company responded to the crash and transported both drivers to for non-life threatening injuries, according to police.

Because of his injuries, Carabantes was released at the hospital on an appearance ticket, pending future legal action, police said.
