Crimes Nearby: East Hampton Burglar Caught Stealing Clothing

say they caught a burglar in the act and apprehended him in the early morning hours on Jan. 18.

Police responded to a residential burglar alarm at 27 Atlantic St. in East Hampton at about 5:15 a.m. Detective Lt. Chris Anderson said Carlos A. Montaleza-Arpi, who gave his address as two doors down at 29 Atlantic Street, had tripped the alarm and tried to disable it. He said when police arrived, they found the homeowner's car in the driveway with a broken window and then discovered a broken window on the first-floor.

Montalez-Arpi, 30, was seen inside the house taking items of clothing, the detective said. Confronted by an officer in a brief struggle, "He came back out the way he went in," Anderson said.

• On Jan. 19, East Hampton Police charged Christian Beruzuta, 28, of East Hampton with DWI with a BAC of .08 after he was involved in a motor vehicle accident on Cedar Street near Coopers Lane.  Police also charged Beruzuta with aggravated unlicensed operation in the first degree. The car he was driving, a black Pontiac Grand AM, was impounded. Beruzuta was released on $5,000 bail.

• On Jan. 22, East Hampton Police charged Gladys Chaca-Quizphi, 30, of Southampton with criminal possession of stolen property in the fifth degree.  Police reported that they stopped Chaca-Quizphi on North Main and a check of her registration showed that the plates on the car did not match the registration. Upon investigation, police said the plates had been reported stolen. Chaca-Quizphi was released on a $50 appearance ticket. She is due back in court on Feb. 9.

SOUTHAMPTON

• Luis B. Zeas, 32, of East Hampton, was arrested Jan. 23 on Division Street in Sag Harbor and charged with criminal obstruction of breathing or blood circulation, a misdemeanor, and harassment in the second degree, a violation. Sag Harbor Village police said Zeas grabbed a victim's neck, choking her, and kicked her twice on her left leg.

• Bolivar H. Martinez-Vicuna, 41, of Water Mill, was arrested Jan. 18 at 2:51 p.m. and charged with assault in the third degree, a misdemeanor. He was released after posting $250 bail. Southampton Village police said the victim was transported to where he was treated and released.

MILLER PLACE - ROCKY POINT

• A 16-year-old minor, of Miller Place, was arrested Jan. 13 and charged with fifth degree criminal possession of stolen property. He was found to be in possession of a stolen iPod from a house on Wabil Road.

• A 16-year-old minor, of Miller Place, was arrested Jan. 13 and charged with two counts of petty larceny. He allegedly took a BMX bike from a shed and auto parts for a 2002 Ford Ranger from two separate places in Miller Place.

• Timothy Vona, 21, of Rocky Point, was arrested Jan. 13 and charged with two counts of third degree criminal possession of stolen property: property value greater than $3,000 and two counts of fourth degree criminal possession of stolen property: property value greater than $1,000. He allegedly tried to pawn stolen jewelry at CP’s Gold Rush in Rocky Point on or about Dec. 7, Dec. 10, and Dec. 15, and at in Rocky Point on or about Dec. 18.

WESTHAMPTON BEACH - HAMPTON BAYS

• On Sunday, Southampton Police charged Fernando Patino-Munzo, 44, of Hampton Bays, with DWI.  Police say they stopped Patino after they spotted him swerving and speeding on Flanders Road in Hampton Bays. Police said Patino-Munzo was slurring his speech and had blood-shot eyes, and reportedly performed poorly on a field sobriety test. Aside from being charged with DWI, Patino-Munzo was charged with unreasonable speed and unlicensed operator, driving on shoulder, moving from a lane unsafely and speeding.

• Police charged Noah Daniels, 40, of Riverhead with assault in the third degree and for criminal possession of a controlled substance on Sunday in Quogue. Police say a complaint came in that Daniels struck a man on the side of the face, knocking a tooth loose that had to be extracted. Upon investigation, police found Daniels was in possession of cocaine.

RIVERHEAD

• New York State Police arrested a man on Jan. 21 on State Police said in assisting Southampton Town Police in response to a domestic incident, Israel Garcia, 34, of Riverside, was spotted leaving the scene in a blue jeep. According to reports, Garcia was pulled over and an officer said he detected the smell of alcohol on his breath. Police said he presented a fake North Carolina drivers' license.

• Police charged Daniel Goodale, 34, of Riverhead, with felony DWI on Jan. 23. According to reports, Goodale was driving his car erratically when police pulled him over. Police said he was intoxicated upon investigation, and because he had a DWI charge within the past 10 years, was charged with a felony. He was held pending arraignment at Southampton Justice Court.
