Crimes Nearby: DWI and Drug Charges Abound Across East End

MILLER PLACE-ROCKY POINT:

• Donna Hancock, 53, of Shoreham, was arrested June 12 in East Setauket and charged with petty larceny. Hancock allegedly stole various items from Walmart that she put in her purse.

• Keith Kocka, 24, of Stony Brook, was arrested June 11 in Sound Beach and charged with seventh degree criminal possession of a controlled substance. Police said he was arrested at approximately 9:30 p.m. while seated in a 2000 Toyota.

• Stephanie Richards, 20, of Rocky Point, was arrested June 11 in Sound Beach and charged with seventh degree criminal possession of a controlled substance. Richards was arrested along with Kocka, according to police.

Melanie Wersan, 20, of Mt. Sinai, was arrested June 11 in Patchogue and charged with petty larceny. Wersan was arrested at approximately 8 a.m. at Walgreens for allegedly taking two pairs of sandals and various make-up products without paying for them.

RIVERHEAD:

• Desmond J. Bright, 31, of Flanders, was arrested June 7 at 9:10 a.m. in Riverside and charged with criminal impersonation in the second degree and aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle in the second degree, both misdemeanors, as well as being an unlicensed driver and littering, both violations. Police said Bright was pulled over for throwing garbage out the window while driving on Route 24 and misidentified himself to an officer.

• Riverhead Town Police responded to a call on June 13 at 3:05 p.m. from a Doctors Path resident who said that her son had taken her car without her permission. Prior to the arrival of police at her home, officers observed the vehicle heading northbound on Doctors Path. Officers determined that Paul T. Booker, 33, was wanted by Riverhead Town Police on an outstanding warrant and arrested him; the defendant was also charged with operating the vehicle without a license.The car was returned to Booker's mother.

WESTHAMPTON-HAMPTON BAYS:

• Jose R. Cabrera, 30, of Southampton, was arrested June 17 at 3:29 a.m. on Montauk Highway East in Hampton Bays and charged with DWI, a misdemeanor. Police said Cabrera was pulled over after failing to maintain his lane. He was additionally charged with being an unlicensed driver and moving from a lane unsafely, both infractions.

• Fredin A. Vasquez, 44, of Hampton Bays, was arrested June 17 at 2:13 a.m. on Montauk Highway West in Hampton Bays and charged with aggravated DWI, a misdemeanor. Police said Vasquez failed to maintain his lane and pulled into a parking lot without signaling. Further investigation shows he was intoxicated, according to the arrest report. He was additionally charged with moving from lane unsafely and unsafe turn without a signal, both infractions.

• Gus Garcia-Blancarte, 26, of Flanders, was arrested June 16 at 10:18 p.m. on County Road 39 in Southampton and charged with DWI, a misdemeanor. Police said Garcia-Blancarte was speeding and failing to maintain his lane while driving on County Road 39 westbound near the Shrubland Road intersection. He was additionally charged with speeding, a traffic infraction.

SOUTHAMPTON:

• Evan C. DeRobertis, 30, of Southampton, was arrested June 14 at 2:48 a.m. on Roses Grove Road in Noyac and charged with DWI, a misdemeanor, as well as multiple traffic infractions. Police said DeRobertis was failing to maintain his lane and driving into the oncoming traffic lane. He had a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage on his breath, slurred speech and was unsteady on his feet, according to the arrest report. Police said DeRobertis admitted to drinking “a bunch of beers” at a bar.

• Andrew P. DeRobertis, 33, of Southampton, was arrested June 14 at 3:23 a.m. on Roses Grove Road in Noyac and charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance in the seventh degree, a misdemeanor, and unlawful possession of marijuana, a violation. Police said DeRobertis was the passenger in a vehicle when the driver was arrested for DWI. Marijuana was located in plain view in the driver side door pocket of the vehicle, and a search of the vehicle turned up a micro Ziplock bag of cocaine in the center console, according to the arrest report. Police said DeRobertis admitted that the marijuana and cocaine were his.

• Cameron L. Greenbaum, 23, of East Hampton, was arrested June 13 at 10:46 p.m. and charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance in the seventh degree and aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle in the third degree, both misdemeanors. Greenbaum was pulled over for an illegal U-turn and found to have a suspended driver’s license, according to the arrest report. Police said a search turned up a tablet of methadone.

• Patrick James McGay, 18, of Southampton, was arrested June 17 at 1:43 a.m. on Majors Path in North Sea and charged with driving while ability impaired by drugs, a misdemeanor, as well as vehicle and traffic infractions. Police said McGay was stopped for failing to maintain his lane and when an officer approached the vehicle there was a strong odor of marijuana. McGay was brought to police headquarters in Hampton Bays, processed and held for arraignment.

EAST HAMPTON:

• , 23, of East Hampton, is being held on $50,000 cash or $100,000 bond at the Suffolk County jail in Riverside, following his arrest on charges of felony driving while intoxicated, driving without an Interlock ignition device, and with a suspended license. Police said he hit a tree in a 2000 Toyota on Spring Close Highway, near Montauk Highway, on June 3 at about 12:10 a.m. When police arrived, he was outside the car, but the keys were still in the ignition and the engine was running. Police found that his license had been revoked on Jan. 12, 2012, for aggravated DWI and had not been restored. Neither Tacuri or the passenger, Luis Jarama-Zhinin, the registered owner, were injured.

• Felipe Marin, 21, of Montauk, was charged with drug possession on Monday morning after police stopped him in the Montauk precinct parking lot on South Embassy Street for carrying an open bottle of Corona beer. The officer also smelled marijuana on him. As Marin was emptying his pockets, he threw a plastic ZipLock baggy, with a green leafy substance, in it to the ground. Police took him into the precinct and while conducting a search, they found a small orange glassine envelope with a white powdery substance in his coin pocket of his pants. The substances field tested positive for marijuana and cocaine. He was charged with seventh-degree possession of a controlled substance, a misdemeanor, and unlawful possession of marijuana, a violation. He was released on $100 station house bail.

• Three young men — 22, 21, and 19-year olds from East Hampton — were arrested on criminal trespass charges after they were found on a shrink-wrapped boat inside a storage facility on Three Mile Harbor Road in East Hampton on June 11. They were charged with misdemeanors and will be arrainged in East Hampton Town Justice Court at a later date.
