Crimes Nearby: Assault in Center Moriches; DWIs Across East End

The following information was supplied by Suffolk County and East End police departments. A criminal charge is only an accusation and does not indicate guilt.

• Jenna Connolly, 23, of Sound Beach, was arrested Feb. 22 and charged with third degree assault with intent to cause physical injury. Connolly allegedly punched and hit another woman after leaving a pub on Montauk Highway in Center Moriches on Feb. 17 at 12:30 am.

• John Escobar, 26, of Shoreham, was arrested Feb. 20 and charged with fifth degree criminal possession of stolen property. Escobar was allegedly in possession of prescription medication that belonged to another person and several items that had been reported stolen from a car.

• Westhampton Beach Police arrested Trevor Harris, 37, of Westhampton, on burglary and grand larceny charges. Police said they nabbed Harris after he entered an unoccupied home on Beach Lane and used the homeowner's car. Police believe Harris gained access to the home and the car through a back window or door. "He was using it as a flop house," said Chief Raymond Dean, who also noted that this is not the first time that police have caught Harris in a home that did not belong to him. "He is a repeat offender," Dean said. Police arrested Harris on the street in front of the home.

• Dennis Joseph Malerba, 31, of Westhampton, was, a felony, after police said an investigation revealed that Malerba had stolen more than $3,000 worth of jewelry from an Eastport residence. He was processed and held for arraignment.

RIVERHEAD:

• A Riverhead and Baiting Hollow man were arrested on Monday night after Southampton Police said they were under the influence of, and with criminal possession of, drugs. According to reports, Gregory Koplinka, 25, of Riverhead, was stopped for speeding while at 11 p.m. driving in Flanders, and while being interviewed police, was allegedly witnessed to be under the influence of marijuana. He was charged with driving while ability impaired by drugs, and cited for unlawful possession of marijuana and traffic violations. Philip Liquori, 24, of Baiting Hollow, was charged with criminal possession of marijuana in the fifth degree.

• William Walsh, 24, of Remsenburg, was arrested Feb. 25 at 11:15 p.m. on Montauk Highway in Sagaponack and charged with DWI, a misdemeanor. He was additionally charged with aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle in the third degree, a misdemeanor, and speeding, a traffic infraction. Walsh was stopped by police after he was observed traveling 91 miles per hour in a 40-mile-per-hour zone and was found to be intoxicated, according to the arrest report.

• Renee Despins, 68, of Sag Harbor, was arrested Feb. 19 at 9:19 p.m. on Montauk Highway in Bridgehampton. She was, a misdemeanor, and moving from his lane unsafely, a traffic infraction. Police said Despins was pulled over after they observed her failing to obey a traffic light and veering left on the road.

EAST HAMPTON:

• arrested Charles G. Waller, 57, of East Hampton, on a charge of driving while intoxicated on Feb. 21. Police said he was swerving over the double yellow line and then onto the grass on Springs Fireplace Road, near Fort Pond Boulevard, in Springs at about 6:30 p.m. After his arrest, he was held overnight. Lisa R. Rana arraigned him the next day and released him on his own recognizance.

• Four copper drain pipes were reported stolen from a house under construction on Further Lane in East Hampton sometime between Jan. 29 and Feb. 19. Town police were given an estimate of $5,400 to replace the pipes.

• Just over $7,000 in copper gutters were stolen from a house on Ocean View Lane in Amagansett between Feb. 13 and 19. The homeowner noticed several feet sections of the gutters gone on the back and side of the house.
