Cops: Woman Lunges at Police Officer With Knife

The woman was seen walking on Route 25 in Cutchogue with the large knife, police said.

A Cutchogue woman was arrested Thursday after she lunged at a police officer with a knife, authorities said.

According to Southold Town police, the incident took place at 9:26 p.m. on State Route 25 in Cutchogue.

Police officers on patrol said they were trying to check on the well-being of a female they'd seen walking on Route 25. When an officer approached the woman, a resident warned him that she had a large knife and was acting in an "erratic" manner, police said.

The woman then allegedly pointed the knife at the officer, lunging at him several times.

The officer was able to safely subdue the woman,  who was arrested and charged with criminal possession of a weapon and menacing, misdemeanors.
