Cops: Unlicensed Driver Charged With DWI in Greenport

A driver allegedly failed to stop at a stop sign, police said.

An unlicensed driver who ignored a stop sign was charged with driving while intoxicated early Saturday morning in Greenport, police said.

According to Southold Town police, Angel L. Albaladejo, 31, of Southold, was arrested at 1:32 a.m. Saturday morning on Route 48 in Greenport. 

Police said Albaladejo was observed operating a 1999 Dodge Durango on Main Street in Greenport. Albaladejo failed to stop for a stop sign as he turned to travel westbound on Route 48, police said; he was stopped and interviewed.

During the interview the odor of an alcoholic beverage was detected coming from Albaladejo, according to police; he was given several roadside sobriety tests, which he failed. A DMV check showed that he did not possess a valid driver's license.

Albaladejo was arrested, transported to Southold police headquarters, and processed. Albaladejo was held to await arraignment in Southold Town Justice Court.
