Cops: Suspect Threatened To Kill Man With Kitchen Knife

Defendant was charged with criminal possession of a weapon and menacing.

A suspect was arrested in Greenport Thursday after police said he threatened to kill a man with a kitchen knife.

According to Southold Town police, Robert Lee Smith, 54, of Greenport, was arrested on Thursday at 2:21 p.m. and charged with criminal possession of a weapon and menacing, felony charges, after an incident on Third Street.

Police said a Greenport resident, 69, called 911 to report that Smith had picked up a kitchen knife, held it up, pointed it in the man's direction and told him he was going to kill him.

Smith was arrested, transported to Southold Town police headquarters, processed and held for arraignment.
