Cops: Southold Man Wanted by Immigration Charged With Stalking Teen

Suspect will be detained until immigration officials pick him up, police said.

A 61-year-old man was charged with stalking a 19-year-old woman in Southold, police said.

According to Southold Town police, Cesar Muralles, 61, of Southold, was arrested on Route 2 in Southold and charged with stalking in the fourth degree, a misdemeanor.

Police said Muralles allegedly stalked a 19-year-old female victim from Southold.

According to Southold Town Police Chief Martin Flatley, Muralles was reportedly following the young woman in his vehicle, "trying to engage her in conversation. She told him on several different occasions she didn't want to talk to him. He was not obeying her wishes."

The young woman, Flatley said, was not an acquaintance of Muralles and had never been involved in a relationship or friendship with him.

When processed, police discovered that Muralles was wanted by immigration officials. He was transported to police headquarters and held for arraignment, after which he will be picked up by immigration officials, police said.

The difference between misdemeanor and felony stalking charges, Flatley added, is that a felony charge follows threats, including threats or violence, which did not occur in Muralles' case.
