Cops: Shelter Island Man Charged With DWI In Greenport

Police said they observed the defendant driving in an erratic manner on Third Street.

A Shelter Island man was charged with driving while intoxicated in Greenport after police say he was observed driving in "an erratic manner."

Brian G. Nelson, 61, of Shelter Island was arrested on Friday at 3:51 a.m. on Third Street in Greenport and charged with driving while intoxicated, a misdemeanor, and failure to maintain lane.

Police said he was observed operating a 1997 Honda on Third Street in an erratic manner. He was stopped and interviewed by police. During the interview, police said the odor of an alcoholic beverage was detected coming from Nelson. He was given a roadside sobriety test, which police said he failed.

Nelson was arrested, transported to Southold Town police headquarters, processed, and held to await arraignment in Southold Justice Court.
