Cops: Men, Staff Injured After Street Brawl Breaks Out Again At Hospital

Hospital staff were injured while breaking up the fight, police said.

A street brawl involving a knife heated up again in the emergency room at Eastern Long Island Hospital early Sunday, leaving three men and hospital staffers injured, police said.

According to Southold Town police, a Greenport man, 36, a Shelter Island man, 24, and a Southold man, 33,  were involved in a reported fight that broke out in the emergency room of Eastern Long Island Hospital at 12:31 a.m. Sunday morning.

The three men had gone to ELIH for injuries sustained in an earlier brawl in the Adams Street parking lot in Greenport. at 12:17 a.m., police said.

Upon arrival at the emergency room, another fight broke out among the suspects, police said.

Hospital staff sustained minor injuries while breaking up the fight.

Police said it appeared that a knife "or similar type cutting instrument" was used by at least one of those involved in the Adams Street altercation. 

Two of the men sustained serious lacerations and were treated at ELIH, police said; a third man, who was injured seriously, was transferred to Stony Brook University Hospital.

Police said no arrests have been made and the investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Southold Police Department at (631) 765-2600.
