Cops: Man Leads Police On High Speed Chase

Police said the driver was charged with unlawful fleeing and 11 vehicle and traffic law violations.

A Mattituck man on an ATV was arrested early Saturday morning after police said he led officers on an early morning high-speed chase.

Southold Town police arrested John Kopf, 24, at 12:58 Saturday morning on Cox Neck Road in Mattituck.

According to police, Kopf had been seen operating an ATV on Sound Avenue in Mattituck, but, when police tried to stop him, he sped from the scene.

Kopf allegedly led police on a high-speed chase that began on Cox Neck Road, led to Breakwater Road, then Naugles Road, and finally, back onto Cox Neck. 

He was apprehended when he attempted to enter a private drive on Cox Neck Road, police said.

Kopf was charged with unlawful fleeing, a misdemeanor, and 11 vehicle and traffic law violations.
