Cops: Man Found Drunk, With Car Running, In Turning Lane

The vehicle was running but the car was stopped in a turning lane, police said.

A Sag Harbor man was arrested Sunday after police said he was found drunk in a turning lane on Route 48 in Mattituck.

According to Southold Town police, Zachary Smith, 21, was arrested at 10:10 p.m. after an officer responded to reports of a possible car accident.

Police said Smith was found with his car stopped in a turning lane, with the vehicle running.

Investigation revealed that Smith had bloodshot eyes, with breath that "smelled of an alcoholic beverage," police said. 

Police said Smith failed several standardized field sobriety tests at the scene and was found to be intoxicated. He was arrested, charged with driving while intoxicated, a misdemeanor, and transported to police headquarters,where he was processed and held until morning arraignment.
