Cops: Man Drove Drunk, Crashed With 2 Children In the Car

Police said alcohol was detected on his breath.

A Manhattan man was cuffed on Wednesday after police said he drove drunk with two kids in the car in Southold.

According to Southold Town police, Christopher D. Niemeth, 44, was arrested at 2:42 p.m. at Watersedge Way after a possible hit-and-run accident.

Police said after the crash, the smell of alcohol was detected on his breath.

Niemeth, police said, failed several roadside sobriety tests and was arrested and charged driving while intoxicated. He was also charged with two counts of aggravated DWI, for driving drunk with two children in the car, under Leandra's Law, a felony, and two counts of endangering the welfare of a child, a misdemeanor. 

Niemeth was held for arraignment in Southold Justice Court, police said.
