Cops: Man Cuffed For Driving Drunk in Peconic

The man was seen passing in a no passing zone and failing to maintain his lane, police said.

A Hampton Bays man spent the night behind bars after police said he was caught driving drunk in Peconic on Sunday morning.

According Southold Town police, Peter Avedon, 69, was observed passing a vehicle in a no passing zone while he was driving east on Route 25 at 6:17 a.m. Sunday. 

He was found to be intoxicated, police said, and was arrested and charged with DWI, a misdemeanor, as well as passing in a no passing zone and failure to maintain lane. 

Avedon was taken to Southold Town police headquarters, where he was held overnight pending arraignment in Southold Town Justice Court. His vehicle was seized, police said.
