Cops: Previous DWI Offender Cuffed Again

Police said the driver was stopped after he failed to signal while changing lanes and speeding.

A Laurel man who police said was nabbed speeding drunk along Route 48 in Mattituck spent the night behind bars.

According to Southold Town police, George McDowell, Jr., 43, was arrested at 7:55 p.m. on Tuesday at Route 48 and Love Lane in Mattituck and charged with driving while intoxicated, a felony. Police said McDowell had a previous DWI conviction, leading to the felony charge.

Police said McDowell was stopped for speeding and failure to signal while changing lanes and was found to be intoxicated. McDowell was arrested and transported to Southold police headquarters to be processed and held overnight for morning arraignment.
