Cops: Man Arrested With Loaded Gun in Car

Riverhead man arrested on Ole Jule Lane Sunday evening.

Following what police called a report of a "man causing a disturbance at a Mattituck residence," a Riverhead man was arrested with a loaded gun and marijuana in his car, police said.

According to police, 28-year-old Walter Mason IV had a .40 caliber hand gun while driving down Ole Jule Lane around 6 p.m. on Sunday.

Police did not provide details of the disturbance Mason was reported to have caused, though he was charged with criminal possession of a weapon in the second degree, a felony which, per state penal code, is enforced when someone "possesses a machine-gun or loaded firearm with intent to use the same unlawfully against another."
