Cops: Elderly Woman Attacked, Bitten By Family Dog

The woman had bite marks on her back, leg and stomach.

An elderly woman was attacked and bitten by the family dog in a Greenport home, police said.

Southold Town police were called to a Bridge Street on Thursday at 1:26 p.m., where the woman, 88, had been attacked.

The woman, police said, had bite marks on her leg, back and stomach; the dog attacked her for no apparent reason, according to reports.

Greenport rescue took the woman to Eastern Long Island Hospital for treatment of her injuries.

The Southold Town Animal Shelter was contacted by police to respond; the dog was taken to the shelter. Family members said the attack was not the first time the dog had bitten one of them.
