Boy, 2, Falls Out Mattituck Window Into Basement

A baby-sitter was in charge when he fell; the incident appears to be an accident, police said.

A two-year-old boy fell out of a Mattituck window and into the basement Tuesday afternoon.

According to Southold Town Police Captain Frank Kruszeski, police and the Mattituck Fire Department responded to a call just after noon on Route 25 in Mattituck, near the Hess station, where there was a report of a two-year-old boy who had fallen from a second story window.

A plumbing crew who had been performing work at the residence found the child, Javier, who had fallen through open Bilco doors and into the basement below; a member of the crew dialed 911, police said.

The child was flown to Stony Brook University Medical Center by Suffolk County Police helicopter, Kruszeski said; his condition was not immediately known.

A resident of the home where the incident occurred, Brian Perez, said the child was being watched by a baby-sitter while his mother was at work, and that the toddler was jumping and fell out of the window by accident.

Police confirmed the information and said there was a baby-sitter in charge at the time and it "appears it was an accident."
