UPDATED: Boater Leaving Greenport Rescued from Long Island Sound

Coast Guard rescues New York City man who drifted from Greenport to the middle of the Long Island Sound early Wednesday morning.

A 50-year-old New York City man who was attempting to travel from Greenport to another destination on Long Island in a 24-foot sailboat was rescued from rough waters in the middle of the Long Island Sound by members of the U.S. Coast guard early Wednesday morning, according to a report on ctpost.com.

David Hursta used his cell phone to report that he was having chest pains and feared that the sailboat was sinking. A rescue crew from the Coast Guard station in New Haven, Conn. reached Hursta in rainy, windy weather with 4-foot seas and a 20-knot wind.

The Coast Guard anchored the boat in New Haven and Hursta was taken by ambulance to the hospital.
