Aquebogue Man Arraigned in Relation to Fatal Crash

Robert Beodeker, the man whose car struck and killed two pedestrians on the Meadowbrook Parkway on March 4, was arraigned Thursday at First District Court in Hempstead.

According to the Nassau County District Attorney's office, Beodeker, 50, of Aquebogue, was arraigned before Judge Tammy Robbins on a grand jury indictment charging him with aggravated vehicular homicide and other felonies.

According to cops, Beodeker was driving his GMC pick-up truck southbound on the Meadowbrook Parkway near the Southern State Parkway when he struck a disabled Nissan Maxima, as well as two pedestrians that were standing near the vehicle. 

The two pedestrians, identified as Edward Ross, 65, of North Bellmore and John Elder, 76, of Freeport, were pronounced dead at the scene.

Beodeker, who was a dean at Suffolk County Community College, was arrested and initially charged with reckless driving and aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle. Charges were later upgraded to manslaughter, criminally negligent homicide and driving while impaired by drugs.

His  was continued on Thursday and he remains in jail. Beodeker faces up to 25 years in prison if convicted and is due back in court April 30.
