4 Injured In Monday Morning Crash in Wading River

Three of those injured came from the North Fork and Riverhead areas.

Update: 3:46 p.m.: Four were injured after a Monday morning accident involving an overturned car in Wading River, police said.

According to Riverhead police, on Monday at 7:45 a.m., police responded to a motor vehicle accident on Route 25 near Fink's Farmstand in Wading River.

Police said a 2005 Hyundai, driven by Melinda Covino-Costanza, 39, of Coram, was traveling eastbound when she crossed into the westbound lane, colliding with 1993 Mercury, driven by Daniel M. Sheppard, 62, of Mattituck, who was traveling westbound on Route 25.

Covino-Costanza then struck a 2000 Dodge driven by Sean Gordon, 38, of Jamesport, who was also driving westbound on Route 25.

Covino-Costanza continued heading eastbound and struck a 2007 Chrysler, driven by Richard Murdock, 57, of Calverton, who was heading westbound on Route 25.

Police said Covino-Costanza sustained serious physical injuries and was transported to University Stony Brook Hospital for treatment.

The other operators were transported to Peconic Bay Medical Center for treatment of minor physical injuries, police said.

All vehicles were impounded for safety inspections. No arrests were made; police said Covino-Costanza was issued a ticket for having a bald tire and Gordon was issued a ticket for allegedly driving with a suspended license.

The investigation is ongoing. Police ask that any witnesses with information call the Riverhead Police Detective Division at 631-727-4500, ext. 326.

Original story: Police were on the scene Monday morning of an overturned car on Middle Country Road in Wading River.

According to Riverhead Town police, an overturned auto was reported at 7:45 a.m. Monday in front of Fink's Farmstand at 6242 Middle Country Road. Although police said it was not immediately clear how many individuals were hurt in the accident, it is believed some of the injuries may have been serious.

The Suffolk County Police Department was called for traffic control; Wading River Manor road was closed while the scene is being expected.

Aviation and detectives were called to the scene, police said.
