Pine Barrens Whiskey from Long Island Spirits Featured in New York Times

Baiting Hollow distiller uses beer for base of new whiskey.

The New York Times put a spotlight this week on a new whiskey made from beer at Long Island Spirits in Baiting Hollow

Richard Stabile is a seasoned vodka distiller, having made a distict potato vodka on Long Island for the past four years. Now's he's using Blue Point Brewery's Old Howling Bastard — a strong dark beer — as the base for a new 95-proof liquor called Pine Barrens Whiskey, which the Times described as spicy yet smooth.

Stabile also recently released a brandy made from distilling Sherwood House chardonnay.
