Yes Alice, the puppies in the retail stores are cute, but that is not the issue here. The issue is the parent dogs of that cute puppy. They are left behind in the mills to continue to breed more puppies for retail stores for their entire life. After the 6 years or so best breeding years many of these parent dogs are auctioned off at dogs auctions for laboratory research or killed. These parent dogs are kept in cages their entire life. No veterinary care, never let out to exercise, no human contact, inadequate protection from the heat of summer or cold of winter ,snow and rain. I don't know what your idea of a puppy mill is, so please visit caps-web.org and educate yourself about the mills. This site will answer your questions. Thank you

Alice, Barbara d summed it up beautifully, all puppies are cute and forgiving, even after their lives began so terribly. Exposes on TV showed the tortures, in the Amish farms. Disgrace for Pennsylvania, not shutting down these places. anna c

I agree with Barbara D but one other issue is that there are so many domesticated dogs in shelters, or out in the street, euthanized every year, why do we need to breed more? Because our egos tell us we have to have a certain 'cute' breed or a 'new' breed that's 'in' with celebrities. Go to your local shelter and look at the dogs in the shelter. If you adopt one, you make the life of a dog so much better. Probably even save it's life. And if you buy one in the puppy store, the dog in the shelter stays in the shelter or is put to sleep. What do you all think is the right thing to do? Not to mention shelter dogs make awesome pets.

Yes, we think cruel puppy mills should absolutely be banned! Most pet store puppies come from puppy mills. Help the ASPCA fight this horrible industry and sign our pledge – if a pet store sells puppies, don’t buy anything there! http://bit.ly/NoPetStorePuppiesPledge

This story makes me nauseous. I dont know why it hasn't been stopped..It isn't like this is something new and there isn't anything good that comes from them..We adopted a dog last year from North Shore Animal and all the animals it had seemed to be from "puppy mills". I think if they made it a felony to be associated with these mills,it might be a deturrent..(Not sure what the law is now)
