George Costello, Sr., of Greenport, Dies at Age 63

The Suffolk Times reports funeral services for well-known Greenport marine contractor and community advocate.

George Costello Sr., of Greenport, a marine contractor with Costello Marine known for his years of community involvement, died on Dec. 28 at the age of 63.

According to a report from the Suffolk Times, Costello collapsed while working in Southampton and was later pronounced dead at Southampton Hospital. Visitation services will take place Jan. 1 from 7 to 9 p.m. and Jan. from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Horton-Mathie Funeral Home in Greenport. A funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Jan. 3 at 10 a.m. with burial to follow at Arshamomaque Cemetery in Greenport.

Recently, Costello was one of the main advocates for restoration of the roller staking rink at Greenport's American Legion Hall, and he and his family were honored in the summer of 2011 by San Simeon by the Sound nursing facility for their community service.

George was a kind, heard working, community-minded family man and salt of the earth. I for one will sorely miss his presence. My heart goes out to his wife and family.
