Blogger: Go Giants!! (and North Fork Living Rooms!)

Do you remember watching the Super Bowl on a 25" TV in your family's kitchen? Now we have homes equipped with their very own Media Room. We've come a long way!

Ok, so it’s not the week to be talking about real estate. Most North Forkers are only thinking about football and the ‘big game’ that the Giants will surely win. At North Fork Real Estate Inc., we go the distance to bring you some interesting real estate and football trivia.

In 1967, my beloved Green Bay Packers beat the Kansas City Chiefs (35-10) in the first Super Bowl. The median home price was $22,200. The game was most likely watched on a small table top television in a dark basement or the family living room. The Oakland Raiders beat the Minnesota Vikings (32-14) in 1977.  The median home sale was $45,500 and television screens had grown to 25 inches. This surely was a console unit in a den with shag carpeting, Tiffany style lighting with early American bicentennial accents!

By 1987 the median home sale was $98,500. The décor was blue and white, televisions sets were boasting screens as large as 32 inches and Big Blue beat the Broncos 39-20! The Giants next appearance in the Super Bowl was 2001– if you really want the score go ask a Baltimore Ravens fan. In 2001 the median home price was $171,300.  A 42-inch plasma television was the set to have.

The New York Giants win over the New England Patriots (17-14) in 2008, was a sweet victory forever seared into the memories of Giants fans. Also seared in our memories were those sky high home sales. Median sales price, here on the North Fork was $575,000 and television choices became quite complicated. Plasma, High Definition and LCD all became household names. Viewing and living with these impressive and interactive entertainment devices became a challenge for the average home owner.

For Super Bowl XLVI this beautiful Postmodern home in Southold has hit “Pay Dirt“. The Media Room, located on the second floor of this impressive cedar shingled style home is central to all the family activities. We watch television in high definition so it makes sense we live in high definition. Define your media space — make it work for you.  Here in this spacious home, watching the game on Super Bowl Sunday can be as casual as the game was in 1967, or as hyped up as it is today. The median home sale price, here on the North Fork today is $440,000.
