A North Fork Garden of Verses for the Holiday

Even doggerel verse can't spoil this gardener's Thanksgiving

Had duck not turkey for Thanksgiving, which probably explains the questionable "poetry" that follows.  FAIR WARNING, I also got a kick out of Odgen Nash:

We give thanks for tall TREES and bright HOLLY,
wild ASTERS, fall NATURE’s array;
For spring, vivid blooming with KROKOS
(a name that goes back to the Greek!)
Give thanks for the splendor of SUMMER,
GRASSES, IRIS, and VINES in their rows.
But save some applause for the INSECTS
who NURTURE the bounty that grows.
We rejoice for our vast North Fork GARDEN
and the beauty of its shore,
For our family, and friends and our hamlets,
and oh, for so very much more.
So let’s take some time for remembering,
in doggerel verse or prose,
before all the ice and the snowing,
on the date that the calendar shows,
it’s T-H-A-N-K-S-G-I-V-I-N-G.
