What Do You Think About Restricted Beach Hours For Dogs?

Patch wants to know what you think about the issue of dogs on town beaches.

Do you think dogs should be banned from town beaches altogether? Leashed between certain hours during the height of the summer season? And where do you stand on the proliferation of dog poop that has some residents steaming?

At a community forum held Thursday night, Southold Town Supervisor suggested a compromise be reached by requiring that, from May 1 to October 1, dogs must be leased from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. At any time before or after those hours, dogs would be able to remain unleashed on the beach. In addition, on the town's designated swimming beaches, while lifeguards are on duty, dogs or pets would not be allowed at all during the summer season, Russell said.

Where do you stand on the issues? If you weren't at the community forum, Patch would like to hear your thoughts. And if you were at the meeting, what did you think? Share your thoughts with Patch.
