What Do You Think About Limiting Events On Public Roads?

The number of events and participants has escalated over past years, Police Chief Martin Flatley said.

With the number of organizations requesting approval for race and bike events in Southold escalating -- making police protection a daunting task -- the town board and Police Chief Martin Flatley have been discussing shutting the door on for-profit ventures.

The goal, Southold Town Supervisor Scott Russell said, would be to allow charitable events but nix those organized by private, for-profit groups. The supervisor said the idea might meet with some pushback, as some of the events that would be refused have been longtime favorites in the community.

What do you think of the idea? Do you think the town should allow charitable events only? Or would you miss some of the races and bike events that would no longer be taking place in Southold Town?
