Want to try giving a unique gift this year? How about giving the gift of a North Fork Experience? The North Fork has many opportunities for gifts that you really cannot unwrap. Here are gift ideas that are true North Fork Experiences.

  1. In the warmer months, the solar-powered Glory leaves Greenport Harbor for charter trips and educational experiences. Captain Dave Berson can accommodate groups of up to 14 people.
  2. Try wine-tasting mid-week during the winter. Most of the wineries have weekday hours and the tasting room staff can give you their undivided attention and personalized advice.  The Long Island Wine Council website offers a comprehensive listing of local wineries.
  3. Reserve a spot on a charter fishing boat with a local captain. A good place to start your research is the North Fork Captain’s Association website or stop by local marina, many of which have relationships with local captains.   4. The weather outside might be frightful, but local bird species are active in the winter too. Make a date to take a family bird watching walk at in Greenport. The North Fork Audubon Society is the steward of the land and the park has a well-developed trail system.
  5. Need to get away but don’t have the time to go far? How about a weekend at one of the area’s Bed and Breakfasts? Bed and Breakfasts fit different budgets and offer a variety of on-site services. The North Fork Bed and Breakfast Association has an updated listing of facilities.
  6. While Greenport Gallery Walk’s 2011 season has come to a close, the galleries are open for business. Make your own gallery walk and stop along the way for fine dining or coffee. , , , John Jude, , and are open.
  7. Why not tour the area by kayak? in Southold offer kayak rentals in Orient, New Suffolk, and Southold. The company also provides guided tours of local waters.
  8. Go ice skating in Greenport at . Once the weather outside gets cold enough for the ice to set, the Greenport Ice Skating Rink will be open for business seven days a week. Skate rentals are available on site and season passes are available.
