Did You Know WPKN Radio is Your Neighbor?
An introduction to WPKN 89.5 fm for those who don't know it and a reminder for those who do. This will be followed every week by an alert to upcoming programs.
If you leave your car radio tuned to 89.5 fm you will discover a diverse and wonderful world of flavors of music, public affairs, news sources that are anything but mainstream and interviews and information about local events, local musicians, local writers or other people you may not yet have met.
WPKN radio is an independent, free speech, community radio station broadcasting from Bridgeport, Conn., but available more or less anywhere on the North Fork. It's not NPR and it's not corporate! WPKN is fresh, wholesome and intelligent and very proud of itself.
I am a Mattituck resident and one of 140 WPKN voices, one of the programmers who contribute to the station's vital presence in the community. We are all volunteers and, except for the general manager and office manager, none of us get paid. We do it because we love it.
