THE NATIVE AMERICANS AT FORT CORCHAUG

Before Europeans arrived, the grounds that have become Downs Farm Preserve were part of a Native American fort, Fort Corchaug. The site was unique in that farming, fishing, and hunting could all be easily achieved in this locale. Come learn about the customs, language, tools, and how the Native Americans lived off the land. Dress accordingly, weather-permitting the program will be held outdoors and include a short hike through the wooded preserve.
