REGISTRATION for: HUMANITY FOR HABITAT, Application deadline is Friday 7/19 The North Fork Audubon Society is inviting people to participate in a juried Bird and Bat House Competition

The North Fork Audubon Society is inviting local birders, builders, students, architects, designers and artists to participate in "Humanity for Habitat," a juried Bird and Bat House Competition, which will take place on Saturday, August 3, 2013.


All submissions will be displayed in the gardens and inside the Red House at Inlet Pond County Park in Greenport from the 3rd until Sunday, August 18th.


The deadline for delivery of submissions to the Red House is Friday, July 26, by 5:00 p.m. Each submission to the competition should include a sealed envelope containing the designer's name, address, email, and/or telephone number.


To register for the competition please send a $10 registration fee along with name, address and telephone number to North Fork Audubon Society, P.O. Box 973, Mattituck, New York. 11952. The registration deadline for the competition is Friday, July 19th.


Categories for submissions:


1) Nest boxes


built to specifications for cavity nesting birds (ie. below left, for Eastern Bluebirds,Tree Swallows,House Wrens, etc.).


2) Nest shelves for birds that build nests under eaves (ie. above right, for Robins, Barn Swallows, etc.)


3) Bat houses


Entries in these categories will be judged on both their suitability for actual breeding birds as well as the quality of their design and craftsmanship from a human perspective.


4) Flights of Fancy: Artistic, creative houses for birds or bats that are not necessarily functional.





Winning entries will be auctioned on the day of the event. Prizes will be awarded in each category.





Application deadline is Friday 7/19. Project deadline is Friday, 7/26
