Opening Gala Reception, "The Rest is Art: A Celebration of the Bench as an Art Form"

The Resident Art Committee of Peconic Landing, a continuing care retirement community in Greenport, N.Y., will host the opening gala reception of "The Rest is Art: A Celebration of the Bench as an Art Form," in Peconic Landing's permanent outdoor sculpture garden on the grounds of historic Brecknock Hall, 1500 Brecknock Road, Greenport, Sunday, June 30, at 4 p.m.

In addition to seven professional sculptors whose benches were accepted into the juried show, six Mattituck High School art class students under the direction of their teacher Dina Rose were accepted with their personalized benches using snow boards as the main components, along with new pieces from several artists participating in past shows.

Guests will be able to meet the artists and talk about the work and will each receive a commemorative catalog of the art work and artist's statements. The catalog also will be on the Peconic Landing website at www.peconiclanding.org via QR codes on each custom-made sculpture label. The event includes refreshments and musical guests Saxophone Quartet Quattrophonium from the Atlantic Wind Symphony Orchestra.

The event is free and open to the public with reservations available by calling 631-477-BLUE or at www.peconiclanding.ticketleap.com
