Warming Center Opens in Riverhead, Southold Handling Individual Needs

Southold Supervisor said the town is addressing warming needs based on individual 911 calls rather than opening a warming center during this recent cold spell.

As temperatures plummet and even more snow is expected on Friday, Riverhead Town has opened a warming center.

Supervisor Sean Walter announced on Wednesday that the warming center is located at the town’s Senior Center, located at 60 Shade Tree Lane in Aquebogue, for residents who do not have adequate heat.

The center is open from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday - Friday.

Southampton Town announced opening warming centers on Tuesday night.

In Southold, Town Supervisor Scott Russell said he is in contact with the county's emergency operations center, and said residents should dial 911 in the event of an emergency; all needs are being handled through 911, he said.
