The Week Ahead: Park Dancing, Bay-To-Sound Run, Sail Away

Make time to dance to live music in Greenport, sail the Sound and run a 10K for the Jamesport Fire Department this week.

MONDAY

• plays a mix of fun and danceable tunes Monday at 7:30 p.m. at Mitchell Park in Greenport. The performance is one of the last of the Dances in the Park  free series in the village – bring a lawn chair and don’t miss it.

TUESDAY AND WEDNESDAY

happen this week at the school grounds at 73 Shore Road on Shelter Island. The 7 p.m. open masterclasses are free to the public and led by The Perlman Music Program’s Chamber Music Workshop artist-faculty include:  Merry Peckham, Itzhak Perlman, Paul Katz, Peter Salaff, Roger Tapping, Don Weilerstein, and Vivian Hornik Weilerstein. THURSDAY  

• The Giving Room in Southold presents an meditation workshop at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. The class is $18 and is located at 56215 Route 25 in Southold.

FRIDAY  

beginning Friday at 2 p.m. and will sail all weekend out of Mitchell Park Marina in Greenport. The $25 event includes working together to raise the sails, examine firsthand the rich diversity of life that exists beneath the waves at an onboard touch tank; sample and test water quality; learn about hypoxia; analyze groundwater; examine floatable debris; and discuss actions people can take to reduce impact that humans have on the health of the Sound. Ship capacity is 35 passengers. SATURDAY

happens Saturday at 10 a.m. at the Shelter Island School. Come out and support the commerce of your local island community.

SUNDAY

• Strap on your running shoes and tackle the Bay-to-Sound 10K on Sunday at 9 a.m. to support the Jamesport Fire Department. Click here to register.
