Each has a unique personality and a story to match, including the CleoFatra, the Whittle Mermaid, and Betsy Roth of Bridgehampton to mention a few. This is one presentation you won't want to miss. Mark will also exhibit samples of his folk art fish carvings – accurate representations of North American fish – in the gallery’s display case.

Peconic Bay Power Squadron

Kayak & Canoe Seminar at West Marine in Riverhead.

Riverhead, NY, 1 January 2013 – The Peconic Bay Power Squadron will present “Paddle Smart”, part of the USPS University seminar series, at 1:00pm on 9 February 2013 at West Marine in Riverhead. Attendees will learn techniques for safely enjoying the fastest growing segment of recreational boating activity in America.

Paddlesports allow paddlers to get close to nature, have some fun and get exercise all at the same time, but without a little knowledge it can also be dangerous. This seminar will cover terminology (the paddle craft “language”), risks, trip planning, necessary equipment, safety equipment, optional equipment, cold water protection and how to have great time, while staying safe. If you’re thinking about getting into paddling, are new to the sport, or an experienced paddler looking to upgrade equipment or learn more, this seminar is for you.

West Marine is located at 1089 Old Country Road in Riverhead. There is a $45.00 fee which includes the seminar kit with the student note book, The Complete Sea Kayaker’s Handbook and a Cold Shock & Hypothermia tri-fold.
