Sacred Heart Pastor Named Monsignor

Pope Benedict XVI bestows title upon Father Joseph W. Staudt of Sacred Heart parish in Cutchogue.

Father Joseph W. Staudt, pastor of the , has been named "Monsignor" by Pope Benedict XVI, according to Reverend William Murphy, bishop of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Rockville Centre.

The honorary title of "Monsignor" is given to Roman Catholic priests as a sign of appreciation and recognition of the service they have rendered, both locally and throughout the world, Murphy explained.

Ordained in 1978, Monsignor Staudt served his first assignment at Corpus Christi parish in Mineola.

"His subsequent assignments included Saint Sylvester parish, Medford and Saint Patrick parish, Bay Shore before becoming pastor of Christ the King, Commack in 1997," Reverend Murphy said in a statement. "He was then named pastor of Sacred Heart parish, in Cutchogue, in 2007."

The Diocese of Rockville Centre (www.drvc.org) was formed in 1957 and serves approximately 1.5 million Catholics throughout Nassau and Suffolk Counties.
