Flashing Floods Make a Lake of Downtown Greenport

Thursday afternoon rainstorm causes big flooding on Front Street in Greenport; National Weather Service issues flash flood warning until 4 p.m.

Much of the North Fork was underwater after a flash flood hit the area around 2:40 p.m. on Thursday.

Patrons of the Greenport Starbucks on Front Street were also standing in about two inches of water at one point as the rain came down, creating a virtual lake on Front Street, which began flooding through the doors of the coffee shop and into the seating area.

The rain continues to fall as of 3:20 p.m. on Thursday. The National Weather Service has issues a flash flood warning until 4:00 p.m. for all of Suffolk County.
