Shelter Island Police assured on Friday afternoon that should the town decide to set up an emergency shelter (that decision will be made Saturday afternoon), an emergency medical center will be located on the Island at the senior center at 44 South Ferry Rd.

However Sgt. Jim Cronin said South Ferry owner Cliff Clark told the department would be confident he'll be up and running throughout the storm should an emergency arise, saying he's run ferry boats in 93 mph winds before.

Cronin said that residents on Ram Island, on the east side of Shelter Island, have been encouraged to stay at a friend's home on Saturday night.

"It's more than likely that the causeway connecting Ram Island will flood and emergency services will be cut off in a storm," he said.
