May 9: Hands-on Science, Budget Hearing, Quit Smoking

School budget season is winding down this week — be sure to vote on May 17.

Oysterponds School holds its budget hearing while the local hospital helps you quit smoking on Monday.

1. Learn about science in a hands-on sort of way at the , 13900 Route 25 in Mattituck, at 4 p.m. Students will be transported to an imaginary amusement park to explore physics. This program is for grades 7-9. Please register in advance. Call 298-4134.

2. , 23405 Route 25 in Orient, holds its budget hearing for the 2011-12 school year at 7 p.m. The public will be given time to ask questions and comment on the proposed spending plan. Call 631-323-2410.

5. Temple Yoga in Greenport presents a Buddhist meditation session at 7:30 p.m. Drop-in classes include guided meditation, a talk, discussion and questions. Everyone is welcome. No experience is necessary. Call 631-728-5700.
