LIRR Back to Full Service for Labor Day Weekend

'Early-afternoon getaway trains' announced for those looking to get a head start on the long weekend.

After delays and cancellations in the wake of Tropical Storm Irene, service on the Long Island Rail Road was fully restored by Thursday and will be up and running to handle holiday traffic for Labor Day commuters.

Trains to Montauk were back to their normal scheduled by Wednesday evening and service restoration to Greenport - the last of the lines to be restored - was up and running by Thursday morning.

"We are delighted to be able to provide full service on all of our branches in time for customers who are traveling for the Labor Day weekend," said LIRR President Helena E. Williams. "We know how important our service is to the local economy and to our customers' travel plans."
