June 2: Folk Art, Butterfly House, New Tasting Room

Submit your pieces of folk art and take a road trip for butterflies on Thursday.

Thursday offers you the opportunity to get crafty and study up on your natural world.

, 141 East Main Street in Riverhead, is accepting folk art submissions at 10 a.m. and will continue to do so through Saturday. Pieces will be chosen for an exhibit on June 10 through July 15. Call 631-727-0900.

2. Take a drive west to Yaphank to interact with butterflies at the Butterfly House, 350 Yaphank Avenue, at 10 a.m. The Butterfly House is part of the Suffolk County Farm and Education Center and is open on Tuesdays and Thursdays throughout the summer. Call 631-852-4600.

3. , 920 Peconic Lane in Peconic, holds a boater safety course at 7:30 p.m. sponsored by the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary Flotilla 18-8. Participants will learn Coast Guard-approved boat handling, navigation, boating emergencies, personal watercraft, legal and safety requirements, marine radio, and water sports. Call 631-765-1800.
