Jan. 3: Stories to Look for in 2011

Here are a few stories to keep in mind as we move forward in the new year.

The end of 2010 left us hanging with the aftermath of a an exciting earlyand the always-enjoyable thought that Jazz on the Vine is just around the corner. Here are five stories to look forward to in the new year.

1. Southold resident Lynn Lasko and her neighbors at on the Long Island Sound experienced major damage to their waterfront houses after the late December blizzard of 2010. Stay tuned for multimedia coverage of how Lasko, the town and the county will handle the aftermath and prevent future erosion to the delicate Sound-side environment.

2. Though the lost their first game to Eastport - South Manor on Dec. 23, they won every single game up until that point. Will the winning streak continue in 2011? Stay with North Fork Patch to find out.

3. Jazz on the Vine happens once again throughout North Fork Wine Country from Feb. 12 to March 20. Top jazz musicians from around the world will play performances at several local vineyards and restaurants, and reporters from North Fork Patch will be there if you can't be.

4. Remember the Greenport ice rink. This outdoor skating rink at is now fully operational and ready for you to skate with the stars — or at least your neighbors until Vince Neil from Motley Crue shows up to redeem himself. Call 631-477-2200 for more information.

5. While most everyone else hibernated as usual for the holidays, one North Fork man decided that it would be a good idea to row across the Atlantic Ocean from Africa back to North America — relying only on solar power. Stay tuned for the story on North Fork Patch.
