"These photographs are unbelievable. I think it takes a lot of courage to shoot photos during a tragedy like this one. Thank you to Mark and Caroline for sharing with us, as sad and terrible as that day was. I was at Ground Zero a few days later and was not able to photograph!" — Liliana Nealon

"Feels just like yesterday..." — TY Wenzel

"My wife and I worked two block from each other, me in the Time Life building and she at Simon & Schuster. The four-hour walk home under the smokey plume is indelibly etched on our minds. Our car, stoop and deck, etc. was covered with ash and there was charred WTC letterhead stationery in the yard. Nine firemen from our firehouse gave their lives that day." — Mark Kreider

"My sister-in-law worked in Tower Two. She was told to stay put. She ignored that order and the announcements in the stairwell to go back to your desk. SHE MADE IT OUT!" — j

"25 of Mattituck High School's Exchange students from Germany had just visited New York and the Twin Towers the day before!!! I asked my principal's permission to rush home, to start the telephone chain to the German parents, to inform them, that their children were safe! They and all Mattituck High School students and staff suffered terrible emotional pain for the victims, the people of New York and America.

Yes, the photos are necessary, lest we forget, what fanatic people are willing to do for the sake of their conviction and belief." — Gigi Gibbons
