Aug 1: Mattituck Business History, Rock (and Dance) On

It's the first day of August. Rock on.

After an exhausting weekend, we think you need to go to Greenport and dance after work today. Or analyze the state of Mattituck business at the turn of the 20th century.

1. , 13900 Route 25 in Mattituck, presents a lecture on local b at 7 p.m. Librarians Jeff Walden and Jerry Matovcik have put together a PowerPoint presentation through vintage photographs and ephemera. Call 631-298-4134

2. happens once again at 7 p.m. at ,115 Front Street in Greenport. Each week a band will perform a live, free concert in Mitchell Park.This is a great family event so bring your blankets, lawn chairs, and a picnic dinner. Dancing is encouraged. Free will donations are accepted.

3. , located at 141 East Main Street in Riverhead, hosts a summer camp like no other on the East End. begins at 9:30 a.m. Young guitarists, bass players, drummers, horn, woodwind, piano players and violinists can attend this intensive music program where even music theory becomes fun! All instruction, taught by Billy Johnson, is hands-on in the Master Class format, where kids will learn as they play and play as they learn. This program is for children ages 9 to 14 years with one to two years experience. Call 631-369-2171

5. SoutholdVOICE held a great meeting this weekend with Suffolk County Legis. Ed Romaine and local official and experts talking about water quality issues and helicopter noise. Look for stories relating to the robust conversations that took place.
