5 Reasons to Look Forward to the Week Ahead

Here's the wind-up and pitch up to Thanksgiving this week.

Consider these five community events before you start planning you week:

1. Get in shape at the at Zumba class on Monday at 6 p.m. Zumba is open to both residents and non-residents, and beginners are encouraged. Register and pay on the first day of class. Walk-ins are welcome.

2. Hash out towny issues with Southold Town Board members at their bi-weekly work session and meeting on Tuesday at 9 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Click here to see their agenda.

3. Before you stuff yourself with way too many calories on Thanksgiving, run a nice three miles through Mattituck at the M, a fundraiser for athletic programs. The race starts at 9 a.m. outside the gym. It's $25 to run.

4. Light up the night on Black Friday at the Christmas tree lighting at the at 5 p.m. and a at the Maple Lane Museum Complex in Southold. The museum complex will be decorated, as will each period building. Candles and lanterns will illuminate the path on the grounds where guides will be dressed in period costumes. Musicians will stroll the grounds in costume. The Chorus will sing holiday music, too. Children can visit with Santa Claus and his elves in the Pine Neck Barn. Refreshments will be available for tour goers.

5. Forget Riverhead outlets on Friday — check out a huge tag sale at the beginning at 10 a.m. Loads of new and gently used items at tag sale prices will be available — holiday decorations, gifts, clothing, jewelry, collectables, new evening bags, dolls, candles, gift wrap and gift bags. Start your holiday shopping and save, in the parsonage, rain or shine.
