Blog Debut: Fulfill Your Life with a Series of Remarkable Journeys

On 09/07/12 I will kayak the 275 mile circumference of Long Island. I am doing this to show, weight loss is not about losing ANYTHING. It is about living an AWESOME LIFE.

10 years ago I liberated myself of over 200 pounds of excess body weight. It was an epic journey that tested my limits. I am grateful to have my new life as a 200 pound man, but I am also grateful for the lessons that I learned as a obese man and as a man losing weight.

Since that time I have dedicated my life to helping other people liberate themselves from the excess weight that keeps them from living the life they really want. I know losing weight is an epic challenge but I have done it and I have helped other people do it too. In my work, I get to witness ordinary people do extraordinary things. Think about this, if other, ordinary, people can do this, SO CAN YOU.

On Friday September 7th, 2012 I will be embarking on another epic journey that will test my limits. I will kayak around Long Island, NY alone. While I plan to stop each night, I will paddle the entire approx 275 mile circumference of the Island.

Why am I doing this? I am doing this to show that, weight loss is not about losing ANYTHING. It is about giving yourself the opportunity to live an AWESOME LIFE. Weight loss is not about the newest diet pill, or plan, miracle berry or super food. It is about actively living a remarkable life. I am doing this to show that there is an entire world beyond the video screen and fast food drive through. I am doing this to show that you, whoever you are, can live a remarkable life too.

Giving Back: To give the journey a deeper meaning, I will be collecting donations for two causes.

The first is the YMCA project that is proposed for Calverton, NY. I choose this cause because of the Ys long history of making a positive impact on the overall health and well being of a community. According to their website: (http://www.ymca.net/healthy-living/)

"Being healthy means more than simply being physically active. It’s about maintaining a balanced spirit, mind and body. The Y is a place where you can work toward that balance by challenging yourself to learn a new skill or hobby, fostering connections with friends through our lifelong learning programs, or bringing your loved ones closer together through our many family-centered activities. At the Y, it’s not about the activity you choose as much as it is about the benefits of living healthier on the inside as well as the outside."

The second is the Project Venture Playground Project in Flanders, NY. This project is started when a group of kids mobilized to get a playground in their neighborhood. They were outraged after one of their classmates was hit by a car crossing a major highway attempting to go to the only playground in the community. With the help of Southampton Town Youth Bureau, these kids got a grant from the Snapple Corp and they will lose the money if the project does not get community support. This story exemplifies how important it is that our children have a place to play. It is amazing that one of the wealthiest areas in NY state could have pockets of low income, disenfranchised kids that have no place to play.

Finally, for EVERY $25.00 donated, I will be providing a copy of my book "Lose Weight for Good! A step-by-step guide to rebooting your brain for weight loss success" which will be delivered by Jan 1st 2013
