And the Pipe Bands Played On

Pipes and drums may come to Greenport this weekend, a wee Scottish faerie did say.

If you thought just another summer Saturday in Greenport was about to unfold after The Greenport Farmers Market packs up for the day and beach time takes over...think again.

An assembly of pipes and drums, representing several squadrons, are rumored to be assembling at the Whiskey Wind Tavern for some cheer before making their way under full "sail" to the annual Greenport Fire Department Chicken Barbecue at the Third Street fire station.

Although the barbecue may be sold out (at least I was able to secure my 50/50 booklet), there is plenty of food elsewhere in Greenport, should the mighty pipe bands indeed arrive. "Sir" Roy Lindsay Morrow got the word of the oncoming tide of pipes and drums from Jimmy, owner of the venerable Whiskey Wind.

My pal "lady" Vicky Germaise is just gaga over the news, even more than THE Lady GaGa could be about the upcoming fete. Vicky is already packing her practice chanter as she prepares to head to Greenport on Saturday, to indulge in her admiration of men in kilts who play music from The Highlands.

Why wait for a festival without pipes and drums when you can have a piping good day on a Saturday in August? Once the informal assembly has scattered to the lowlands, please join Gallery Walk, especially at The Greenport Harbor Brewery Tasting Room. Sights and sounds of the sea by artists and musicians alike will grace the Greenport Village waterfront this Saturday night!

Of course me thinks a little Highland Faerie may have come to visit these ideas upon me on this balmy summer's eve yet it is my experience the messages of this elusive Scottish faerie may come to be. After all, wasn't it the great Sir Arthur Conan Doyle who also believed in Faeries such as these?
