Mm… Chicken!

The Greenport Boy Scout Troop #51 annual chicken dinner was awesome, but they had to roll me out the front door when it was all over.

Last night was the Greenport Boy Scout Troop #51 annual chicken dinner at .

I’m ashamed to admit that I have never been to a chicken dinner fundraiser at Soundview, but now I understand why they host so many and why they are always so successful.

The food was really, really good.

My only complaint is that they don’t sell kid tickets that come with kid portions. It’s not that I mind paying full price for a meal that my children are sure to not eat, but the fact that I have absolutely no self control.

My youngest ate exactly seven peas, five carrot squares, two bites of chicken, a piece of onion and a spoonful of cranberry sauce. Fat daddy, on the other hand, ate a salad, an entire chicken thigh (which was the size of my six-year-old son’s head) and healthy portions of mashed potatoes, stuffing, and peas with carrots.

“Why don’t you take that home with you,” my Nana asked, pointing to my little one’s full plate.

“Nah, it will never get eaten,” I replied as I swapped plates with the little guy.

Make that two salads, two monster chicken thighs and two healthy portions of mashed potatoes, stuffing, and peas with carrots.

Oh, did I mention that they served ice cream for dessert and that my littlest doesn’t like ice cream?

I know, I worry that there may be something wrong with him too.

So, make that one and one-half dessert on top of everything else. It was one and one-half because my oldest got half of his brother’s ice cream.

He’s totally normal.

Seriously, as the parent of a cub scout, a big thanks to everyone who bought a ticket to the fundraiser. The boys do a lot of great things for the community and these fundraisers really help keep the group going.

If you didn’t have a chance to buy a ticket this year, consider buying one next year.

It’s totally worth it!
